Bibliotheek met o.a. belangrijke boeken over theosofische kunstenaars door brand verwoest

16 juli 2014

Van het ‘Enchanted Modernities Team’, die in september 2013 in Amsterdam het symposium over theosofie en kunst organiseerde, door veel van onze leden bezocht, bereikte ons dit bericht:

You may have seen press reports of the fire that destroyed the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh Library, often voted one of the most beautiful library spaces in the world. We’ve issued a statement here http://gsalibrarytreasures.wordpress.com/2014/05/30/statement-on-the-mackintosh-library-collections/

The entire library and its contents were destroyed, but we have been humbled by the many good wishes and kind words we have received across the world from friends and strangers alike.

In particular we have lost a number of books on the artist Jean Delville and his connections to theosophy. Delville was our one-time Head of Painting, and was influential in the life of the School at that time.

We have received many offers of book donations to help us rebuild our lost collections. In response we have released a wants list of specific titles that we are seeking, which you can find here http://lib.gsa.ac.uk/update-on-fire-affected-library-services/

If you feel it appropriate, I wonder whether you could circulate this email to arts and theosophy scholars who may be able to help us replace some of the volumes listed under ‘Symbolism’ in the list. It would really help us begin to rebuild our collection and to ensure that Delville and the influence of theosophy continue to be reflected in our holdings

Best wishes
