The Theosphical Society was founded at New York on 17 November 1875. Its three objects are:

  1. To form a nucleus of Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour.
  2. To encourage the study of Comparative Religion, Philosophy and Science.
  3. To investigate unexplained Laws of Nature and the powers latent in man.

No doctrine, no opinion, by whomsoever taught or held, is in any way binding on any member of the Society. Approval of its three objects is the sole condition of membership. Members of the Society hold that Truth should be sought by study, by reflection, by purity of life, by devotion to high ideals and that it is not a dogma to be imposed by any authority. The members are bound together not by the profession of a common belief, but by a common search and aspiration for Truth.
